Taveuni Island - So lush and ridiculously stunning
After living in Nadi for eight months, we went on a little honeymoon trip to Taveuni. This tranquil island paradise is just a one hour flight on a tiny plane from Nadi International Airport.
Best things we did in Taveuni:
- Snorkelling and diving at Rainbow Reef - best snorkelling I've done
- Gaiatree Sanctuary organic farm day trip - farm to table perfection
- Tavoro Waterfalls - Bouma National Heritage Park - 3 waterfalls and a beautiful hike
Snorkelling and Diving at Rainbow Reef
We went on a snorkelling trip organised by our resort Maravu Lodge Taveuni and most resorts could organise to take you out there. I am not kidding when I say this was some of the best snorkelling I have ever done and I have snorkelled in Mexico, Australia and Vanuatu. Ok Vanuatu was comparably as good.
We were lucky and had perfect conditions, sunny and still, making it easy to dive down and check out this little underwater paradise. Mark also went diving with Taveuni Ocean Sports.
Gaiatree Sanctuary Day Trip
If you are ever in Taveuni and are into amazing food, organic gardens and some sweet views, then check out Gaiatree Sanctuary.
Run by two Canadians who have made Taveuni their home, this organic farm really is a beautiful sanctuary where you are taken on a walk through the organic gardens to learn all about the plants, fruit, herbs and spices grown on the farm. Once the walk is over, you sit down to an amazing feast created by the local women who work there and all the ingredients are grown on the farm. I'm talking salads with 17 different kinds of leafy greens, coconut bowls filled with acai sorbet, crystallised ginger and edible flowers, and my favourite, mojitos made with sugarcane I squeezed myself.
This is the perfect day trip for those who want an adventure away from their resort for a different experience.

The vibe - Taveuni is very chilled, peaceful and charming
If you like - Waterfalls, snorkelling, diving, hiking, organic farms, and a very relaxed place to visit, then you will love Taveuni.
If you don't like - All of the above, and need a more happening scene with party beach bars and lots of restaurants and markets, then Taveuni won't be your scene.
Where to stay in Taveuni
Taveuni has accommodation ranging from budget tree house style bures at Maravu which is where we stayed, through to luxe accom with beach front villas and private island resorts. Here are some ideas to get you started and you can see what matches your budget and the kind of Fiji holiday you are after.
Maravu - Think rustic Fijian charm, great for budget travellers, families, couples or anyone who prefers a more leafy, casual chilled vibe than lush resort.
Taveuni is renowned for luxury boutique style accommodation, so you won't see any typical branded resorts out there. The resorts are more likely to be privately owned and specialising in private, tranquil resort experiences. Some of the popular ones include; Taveuni Palms Resort and Taveuni Island Resort and Spa.
Prices range immensely on Taveuni and you can check out a range of resorts here.
Taveuni was definitely the remote escape we needed and we hope to come back again one day, but for now, we at least have great memories. Check out the rest of our trip in the pics below xx
